Prom Portraits: Rochester, NY Photographer
Thursday, June 12, 2014 | By: Linda Dow Hayes
Recently, I read a column from the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle by Pam Sherman about proms and how they've changed or, more specifically, how teens attitudes have changed about them. I can't agree more. When I was in high school, finding the dress was the big deal. I didn't even consider getting my hair and nails done, and renting a limo spending hundreds of dollars on all that prep. I do remember going out to dinner, the prom itself and the after party. The memories are still there and so will they be for this year's crop of prom attendees. One thing that hasn't changed, is all the pictures that are taken to capture the fun. This year, I was contacted by the mother of a Webster Schroeder High School student to hire me for my services to photograph a group of fourteen teens at one of their homes. What a fantastic idea! Hire me to take the pictures (which would be a shared cost among fourteen sets of parents) and mom and dad can relax and enjoy visiting with friends and seeing their children in all their finery. I was delighted about the prospect. Since I substitute teach in Webster, I knew that I'd probably know some of the students and couldn't wait to see them looking glamourous! Fortunately, the hosts home was lovely, with woods surrounding it and lawns and gardens to give me a variety of location options. The weather held out and, with the help of an assistant, we had an awesome time photographing this group. What I didn't expect was the amount of people that came to be a part of this experience. The last shot will have you laughing! I know I did!!!
