We All Have a Story, Jeanne: Rochester, NY Portrait Project

Meet Jeanne Nourse, a fifth-grade teacher at Klem South Elementary School in Webster, NY. When I began this project (click here for more info) back in November, I envisioned a series of black and white images with one image per subject.  Meeting Jeanne changed all that.  She's vibrant, well-spoken, witty and worldly so much more than her years would normally suggest. A Fairport native, she  lived and worked in South Korea after college, hoping to live a little and help her become more marketable as a teacher. She felt that experience was amazing and also a good life lesson in how to grow up fast. She and her husband, Jared, are self-labeled Halloween and Fall fanatics, themed sweater collectors and "super big kids". Jeanne is part of the Nuts & Bolts Comedy Improv company and although I haven't seen her in action, she's got to be an amazing asset!  She's also very active on Twitter @MrsNourse5.  Jeanne has always loved the iconic Rosie the Riveter image and felt strongly that that concept would tie in to helping to tell her story.  I couldn't agree more.

In her words:

'"Yes, and..." is my story.

"In improv comedy, there is a rule-of-thumb called "Yes, and..." which means that you should always accept whatever comes your way and then build on it. I joyfully say yes to any opportunity or experience in my life and I try to enhance it and expand upon it to make it a unique and memorable experience. I try to live a positive life and have my journey on this Earth be extraordinary, full of possibilities, and never just average."

Suzanne Suor - This is perfect. I love your upbeat, bring-it-on attitude. Sometimes when I approach people with my book/photography ideas for kids, I see the self-doubt in their eyes. Will it be too much work? How can I do this? But, but, but. I have learned to steer clear of the doubters. We all have only so much time and energy and so it is best to connect with those who love to imagine the possibilities and take a chance.

Linda Hayes - How wonderful that Jeanne is part of your family. To be able to see her on a regular basis must be such a joy and blessing! No doubt she is making the lives of her students better by being their teacher too!

Pam Troglauer - Jeanne is my daughter-in-law and she brings joy and happiness where ever she goes. We are so lucky to have her in our lives and part of our family. She is an awesome daughter-in-law, wife, teacher and all round person. She makes lives better.

Deborah Kitto - WTG Jeanne! I love that you inspire the children of this generation to be something more than at the end of a cell phone or computer! Rock on Garth!
